First Indian Navy Project 15B - Visakhapatnam-class Destroyer Launched
 
The Indian Navy announced the First ship of Project 15B Guided Missile Destroyer christened ‘Visakhapatnam’ was launched on 20 Apr 15 at a magnificent ceremony at Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL), Mumbai. The ship was launched from Slip Way No. 2 in MDL, Mumbai. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral RK Dhowan, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. In keeping with the nautical traditions, the ship was launched by Smt Minu Dhowan, wife of The Chief of the Naval Staff. After an invocation to the Gods was recited, she broke a coconut on ship’s bow, named the ship and wished the shipand “crew to be”, good luck.

U.S. Navy MQ-4C Triton UAS Conducts First Flight with MFAS Search Radar
 
The U.S. Navy’s MQ-4C Triton UAS equipped with a new search radar completed its inaugural flight April 18 over Patuxent River air space. The radar, known as the Multi-Function Active Sensor (MFAS), is expected to greatly enhance maritime domain awareness by providing the MQ-4C with a 360 degree view of a large geographic area while providing all-weather coverage to expedite detecting, classifying, tracking and identifying points of interest.

German Navy Second F125 frigate "Nordrhein-Westfalen" christened at TKMS Shipyard in Hamburg
 
The second of a total of four 125 class frigates for the German Navy was christened "Nordrhein-Westfalen" last week at the Hamburg site of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Following the christening of the first frigate "Baden-Württemberg" in December 2013 this is a further important milestone in the shipbuilding program for this frigate class. Hannelore Kraft, Premier of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia after which the ship was named, performed the christening ceremony. The frigate "Nordrhein-Westfalen" is scheduled to be handed over to the German defense procurement agency BAAINBw in mid-2018. The contract for the four frigates is worth around two billion euros in total.

Russian Navy Commander Announces New Supply Vessel and Ice Breaker for the Fleet
 
According to the Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Victor Chirkov, the Pacific Fleet will be equipped with new supply vessels including a sea-going Tug and a new generation ice breaker: “On April 18 the Pacific Fleet will be equipped with the Alexander Piskunov tug which is capable to perform supply tasks far from home port”.

ECA Group Wins Two Export Contracts for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV)
 
ECA Group announced that it recently won two export contracts valued at more than €10 million for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV). On the one hand, a first customer exercised its option for two additional Inspector Mk2-type USVs after ordering two in early 2014. On the other hand, ECA Group signed a contract of several million euros to supply two comprehensive systems for the identification and neutralization of underwater mines. These systems will be implemented on a partner's USVs. The latter will then deliver them to an Asian navy in 2016 and 2017.

Raytheon's newest JSOW C-1 variant enters operational testing
 
Raytheon Company and the U.S. Navy successfully completed the final free flight in the integrated testing phase for the Joint Standoff Weapon C-1. During the development test, JSOW C-1 demonstrated its effectiveness against moving maritime targets, a crucial capability against current and future surface warfare threats. The weapon is on track to start operational testing (OT) this spring and is slated for delivery to the fleet in 2016 after the successful completion of OT.

Selex ES has been awarded a multi-million Euro contract from Cobham Aviation Services in Australia to supply a number of Seaspray 5000E Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) surveillance radars. The radars will equip Cobham’s Challenger CL-604 Search and Rescue (SAR) aircraft and be used to provide airborne search and rescue services for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Fincantieri to Build The Other Two Ships Plus One Option for the US Navy's LCS Program
 
FINCANTIERI in partnership with Lockheed Martin Corporation, announces that its subsidiary Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) has signed a contract modification for one fully funded Littoral Combat Ship (LCS 21) along with advanced procurement funding for another ship (LCS 23) for the US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. Furthermore the contract modification also includes a priced option for one additional ship, LCS 25, to be funded in 2016. The total value of the award for Fincantieri is approximately USD 232 million.

Last Two FREMM Multi-Mission Frigates (Ninth and Tenth) Ordered for the Italian Navy
 
Orizzonte Sistemi Navali S.p.A., a joint venture between Fincantieri (51%) and Finmeccanica (49%), and prime contractor for Italy within the international Italian-French FREMM - Multi Mission European Frigates - program, was notified by OCCAR (the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation) of the option exercise for the construction of the ninth and tenth vessel, completing the supply of 10 vessels to the Italian Navy. The value of the order for Orizzonte Sistemi Navali S.p.A. amounts to 764 million euros.

Turkish Company Aselsan to Supply SMASH Remote Controlled Naval Gun System to Croatia
 
The Turkish Company Aselsan, a world leader in the field of military equipment unveils a new generation of 30mm remote controlled stabilized naval guns system at DIMDEX 2014, the International Naval & Maritime Defence Exhibition in Doha, Qatar. The youngest member of ASELSAN’s Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS) family is called MUHAFIZ.
The Turkish Company Aselsan signed an agreement with Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit to supply a remote-controlled stabilized naval gun system to the Croatian coast guard. The sale is ASELSAN's first export of the gun system to an EU country or a NATO member, the company said in a statement. Brodosplit will buy the 30 millimeter SMASH Remote Controlled Stabilized Naval Gun System, worth 4.2 million euros ($4.56 million).

CMN's HSI 32 Interceptor Achieved An Impressive Speed of 47 Knots in Sea Trials
 
French shipyard CMN informed Navy Recognition that the first HSI32 Interceptor built for the Navy of Mozambique achieved an impressive speed of 47 Knots during its initial sea trials. CMN launched the vessel last month. Three OCEAN EAGLE 43 trimaran patrol vessels and three HSI32 interceptors (and several fishing vessels) were ordered by the African nation back in September 2013.

The pact represents a second step in the companies' efforts to offer world-class Offensive Anti-Surface Warfare (OASuW) solutions to the many governments interested in this warfare mission. Raytheon and Kongsberg formed a similar agreement last year to develop the Joint Strike Missile, the air-launched version of the NSM.

During the trials, the ship and its major systems are exercised, tested and corrected as required.

According to Japanese newspaper "The Japan Times", Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said Monday his government is considering the possibility of buying the US-2 amphibious aircraft from Japan.
According to the Chief of the Russian Navy search and emergency rescue service 1st rank Captain Damir Shaikhutdinov, by the end of 2015 6 modern search-and-rescue project 23040 motor boats will have been adopted to the Russian Navy. The building of the vessels will be finished in shipyard “Nizhegorodsky teplokhod”.
