Indra & Alcatel-Lucent conclude the modernization of Poland's national
maritime security system
Indra, in consortium with the company Alcatel-Lucent, has completed
the implementation of an advanced system in Poland that will allow the
country's Maritime Authority to effectively and securely manage vessel
traffic in its 12 ports, over 440 km. of coastline and 60 km. of navigable
channel in the River Oder.

This system
has been developed by Indra and Alcatel in cooperation with the three
regional maritime offices and the Polish Maritime Search and Rescue
Service (MSPiR).
Indra has equipped the control centers in Gdynia, Ustka, Szczecin and
Swinoujscie with its advanced iMARE maritime traffic information system.
This solution merges the data collected by various sensors to offer
an accurate and real-time image of the movements recorded in Polish
waters of the Baltic Sea.
The staff working in these four centers can now access integrated information
on each vessel, and will know its position, trajectory, cargo and destination.
They also have a range of communications systems available to establish
contact with them. The system allows the advance detection of any dangerous
situation and the coordination of the proper response in order to avoid
the risk of collision and environmental disasters.
Another 10 ports along the Polish coastline also have this same solution
so they can share the view of everything taking place in the waters
under their command with their maritime traffic control center.
Indra and Alcatel created this system by deploying a network of sensors
integrating radar equipment, cameras, meteorological stations, radio
direction finders and a vessel automatic identification system (AIS)
which covers the whole of the country's coastline. The system relays
information to the European Maritime Safety Agency's SafeSeaNet system
(EMSA).
Indra has extensive experience in the deployment of vessel traffic management
systems (VTMS) and in the implementation of electronic information management
platforms for ports. Southampton (United Kingdom), Vitoria and Santos
(Brazil), Mohammedia (Morocco) and Dakar (Senegal) are among the ports
that have chosen Indra technology to enhance their management.
Indra plays a leading role in the deployment of coastal surveillance
systems, protecting over 5,000 km. of frontiers all over the world.
Indra has implemented a large part of the Spanish Integrated External
Surveillance System (SIVE) and the system covering the whole of the
Portuguese coast. Countries such as Lithuania, Romania and Hong Kong
have chosen the company's technology to protect their coastline.
Indra has also been at the forefront of Perseus, the European R+D maritime
surveillance system, as part of a group of 32 partners from 12 countries
that developed and tested a common European maritime surveillance system
integrating the most advanced technologies.
