The shipborne Ka-52K showcased at IMDS-2015 is in development for the Russian Navy. It was a prototype based on the Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and combat helicopter, which is in series production for the Russian Armed Forces. The new shipborne Ka-52K will boast resilient anti-corrosion treatment, folding blades and wings, in addition to a number of other systems that have been adapted to its Naval operation.

This is the first of four experimental Ka-52K built in the spring of 2015 by JSC "Arsenyev Aviation Company Progress" under the agreement of 2012 with JSC "Kamov" worth 3.396 billion rubles.

The Ka-52K was initially designed to be operated from the French made Mistral class LHD. Now that the mistral deal is all but uncertain, it is not clear which will platform will deploy these helicopters. The fact Russian Helicopters was showcasing the Ka-52K at IMDS seems to indicate however that the program will move forward.

The Ka-52K helicopter at IMDS was showcased with its rotors and wings folded (a requirement in order to be able to fit inside vessels hangar bays).

Kh-38 air to surface missile and Kh-35 anti-ship missile were also on display next to the helicopter, indicating that the Russian Navy may have requested such capability for the Ka-52K (which has been a rumor ever since the program started) and that Kamov is working on it.
