The Russian Black Sea Fleet submarine forces will be revived, as it was planned, in 2016. It was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov during the meeting with the Main Navy Command in Saint Petersburg dedicated to the implementation of the State Defence Order in the sphere of shipbuilding

“The construction of 6 diesel-electrical submarines (project 636) for the Black Sea Fleet is under the control of the Main Navy Command. “Novorossiysk” and “Rostov-on-Don” submarines were put into service in 2014. The flag was hoisted at “Stary Oskol” submarine this month. “Krasnodar” submarine will join the Navy by the end of 2015,” said the Commander-in-Chief.

Two more submarines of project 636 “Kolpino” and “Veliky Novgorod”, which are planned to be put into service by the end of 2016, are now under active phase of construction at the “Admiralty Shipyard”. When these submarines will reach Novorossiysk in 2015-2016, it will be able to speak about the rebirth of the Black Sea Fleet submarine forces.

“The formation will consist of a group of 636 submarines, which have a large sea endurance, modern weapon systems, effective radio and navigational systems,” Admiral Viktor Chirkov emphasized.

The Commander-in-Chief has also mentioned that “designers are to concentrate all the efforts on increasing the diving depth and cruising range, reduction of noise and the level of trace, further improvement of power systems, weapons and electronics when constructing submarines”.
