Indra will supply TKMS new satellite communications systems for U212 submarines

Indra will supply ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), one of the world's leading shipbuilders, new satellite communications systems for submarines. The company has already completed the design of systems to be installed in the submarines built in Germany. These are KU band systems based on a three-axis stabilized platform, already developed by Indra for previous export contracts with this manufacturer.

Indra reinforces its good relationship with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems since the 2010 contract for the first satcom terminals and electronic warfare systems for class U212 submarines destined for use by the German Navy.

The terminal provides fast and secure communications, notably amplifying the transmission's bandwidth. In addition to increasing the ships' data transmission capacity, the time during which antennas are exposed to radar detection by ships and aircraft is reduced.

Furthermore, these terminals are equipped with the capacity for using commercial and military communications satellites, thereby broadening the coverage of communications and lowering operating costs.

With this project, Indra reinforces its good relationship with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems since the 2010 contract for the first satcom terminals and electronic warfare systems for class U212 submarines destined for use by the German Navy.

In recent years, and thanks to the trust deposited in us by the German manufacturer, Indra has equipped, or is in the process of equipping, the submarines of Armed Forces worldwide with its satellite communications systems, amongst which are those of Portugal, Italy or Turkey.

Growing market
The demand for submarines by different States has grown in recent years. Indra maintains in this field of activity a wide array of state-of-the-art solutions, fruit of our continuous efforts and commitment to R&D&i. This consolidates the company as a solid competitor in the international market.

In this regard, the company, as well as the mentioned X and Ku band satellite communications systems, also has electronic defense systems, low-probability-of-intercept (LPI) radar systems and identification friend or foe (IFF) systems already supplied to the Armed Forces of several countries. In addition, Indra offers maintenance services for electronic, optical and sonar systems.

On another hand, beyond the market of submarines, latest generation ships and boats of the Spanish Army and the Armed Forces of other European, Asian and Latin American countries are fitted with Indra's electronic defense systems, radars and communications systems.
