Marine Celebrates the Interim Delivery for Royal Navy of Oman 2nd Al
Ofouq Class Patrol Vessel
Singapore
Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), the marine arm of Singapore Technologies
Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), today held the Interim Delivery and
Acceptance ceremony for the second Patrol Vessel (PV), RNOV Shinas,
together with the Naming Ceremony for the third PV RNOV Sadh built for
the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO). The Guest-of-Honour was the Commander
of the Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral (RADM) Abdullah bin Khamis bin
Abdullah al-Raisi (TBARNO).
RNOV Shinas is the second patrol vessel designed and built by ST Marine,
based on its proprietary Fearless-class Patrol Vessel, for the Royal
Navy of Oman
The
contract for the design and build of the four Al-Ofouq Class of PVs
was awarded by the Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman through
a competitive international tender in April 2012. These four vessels
will replace the current four Seeb-class patrol vessels commissioned
in the early 1980s.
The Al-Ofouq class of PVs measures 75m in length and displaces approximately
1,250 tonnes. Armed with a modern weapon and combat management system
the PVs are most suited for a variety of maritime and homeland security
missions such as undertaking extended surveillance patrols of the Sultanate
Exclusive Economic Zone.
“We thank the Almighty Allah on this blessed day that his
Almighty enables us to receive the Royal Navy of Oman Vessel (RNOV Shinas)
and give the name to the vessel (RNOV Sadh), which they are considered
remarkable assets of the care and attention of His Majesty the Supreme
Commander of the Armed Forces – May Allah protect him –
to develop his valiant forces, and continue the modernisation march
for the RNO by supplying them with modern ship under the Project ‘Al-Ofouq’
which stipulates to equip the RNO with four navy coastal patrol ships.
There is no doubt, that this project of the four state-of-the-art navy
units are a vital tributary that will reinforce the RNO capabilities
to perform their national duty and contribute to maritime security.
This has been proved by sea trials for the first version of its class,
the ship (RNOV Al-Seeb) after entering the Sultanate territorial waters
and its join to the fleet. I pray to the Almighty Allah to safeguard
the RNO’s vessels and their brave sailors from the sea risks,
and to assist us all to serve our blessed country under the wise leadership
of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the
Armed Forces – May Allah protect him.”
~ Rear Admiral (RADM) Abdullah bin Khamis bin Abdullah al-Raisi
Commander, The Royal Navy of Oman
“ST Marine and the Royal Navy of Oman are again proud that
we have achieved this ‘Double Milestones, Double Happiness’
together. Today is a day for us to celebrate and also a moment for us
to reflect and thank our partners and colleagues for their commitment
and hard work in the Al-Ofouq building journey. Without the unwavering
support from the leadership of the Royal Navy of Oman and the resident
project team, we would not be where we are today. I look forward to
the next partnership with the Royal Navy of Oman.”
