Astrium
showcased its Exoguard upper-tier Ballistic Missile Defense concept
at Euronaval 2012
Astrium,
Europe’s leading space technology company, presented several products
and services at its stand at the 2012 Euronaval show, held at the Paris-Le
Bourget Exhibition Centre from 22-26 October, including its new concepts
in the field of Ballistic Missile Defence.

Vehicle on display at Euronaval 2012 (Scale 1:2)
New projects in
the field of Maritime surveillance included:
- OceanWay: a satellite-based
maritime surveillance service that can monitor and track ships in
every ocean from space.
- SAT-AIS: a satellite-based ship-identification system.
- GO-3S: video from space thanks to an Earth-observation satellite
system in geostationary orbit capable of generating 25 images per
second.
Exoguard
at Euronaval 2012: Astrium's concept for upper-tier Ballistic Missile
Defence
In the field of
Ocean-going deterrent capability and ballistic missile defence, Astrium
had on display:
- A scale model the M51
- Deterrence programmes with models of Exoguard and its Kill Vehicle.
The M51 SLBM is a submarine-launched ballistic missile currently deployed
on some of the French Navy's Triomphant class SSBNs.
Exoguard is an Astrium project to study the feasibility of an Exo-Atmospheric
system combining a multi-stage rocket and a "hit to kill"
kill vehicle based on an infra-red telescope.
