Held under the patronage of His Highness, The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, DIMDEX 2014 exhibition and conference closed today in Doha with the announcement of over USD 23 billion in signed agreements between Qatar Armed Forces and over 20 contractors.

Attended by the Chief of General Staff, Major-General Ghanem bin Shaheen Al-Ghanem, Qatar Armed Forces; various agreements were announced to the total value of 87 billion Qatari Riyals or equivalent to 23 billion US dollars including tanks, artillery, missiles, planes, helicopters and various types of warships from different countries.

The deals included among other things Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Patriot PAC-3 long range air defence systems, 24 Boeing AH-64D Apache combat helicopter and 3 737 Wedgetail early warning aircraft, several hundreds of Lockheed Martin made Javelin and Hellfire missiles.

A letter of intent was also signed for 12 NH90 TTH and 10 NH90 NFH, from Airbus Helicopters and 2 A330 MRTT tanker aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space.

We reported yesterday that the Qatar Coast Guard Services placed an order for 17 new fast patrol boast from Turkish company ARES Shipyard during the Naval Defence and Maritime Security exhibition currently held in Doha.
