Special Cylinders (CSC) reports that 2013 was an exceptional year with
multiple awards, orders won from navies worldwide, and the delivery
of safety-critical high pressure flasks for the US Air Force’s
F-22 Raptor fleet. The flasks are a vital component of the Raptor’s
new automatic backup oxygen supply system (ABOS). |
Retrofitting
the entire F-22 fleet with the ABOS, provided by Honeywell Aerospace,
is an ongoing project and the first delivery of CSC’s flasks to
the USAF was accomplished in record time, with CSC receiving the order
on a Monday and the initial batch being delivered to Seattle in time
for test flights the following Friday.
CSC has a long history of providing vital pilot oxygen systems to military
aircraft, including Spitfires, Lancasters, Vulcans, Hawks and more recently
the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

ASME
accreditation, new customers, new territories
The year also saw CSC achieve ASME accreditation in the USA and this
landmark led directly to CSC securing its first sales within the US
oil and gas sector, with a major Houston-based equipment manufacturer
placing a significant order for bespoke flasks.
Also in 2013, the company supplied high pressure gas flasks to many
overseas navies for the first time, having been a long-term supplier
to the Royal Navy. Through a major contract with one of Germany’s
largest defence contractors, CSC is now supplying safety-critical flasks
to navies as far afield as Malaysia, Chile, Canada and Turkey.
Impressive award-winning performance
The company’s performance continues to impress, with growth in
the last three years far exceeding expectations: turnover increased
by more than 50% between 2011 and 2013. While this is impressive, CSC
expects to continue on this trajectory in 2014. CSC has also invested
significantly in its production line in Sheffield, UK, as well as in
recruiting new staff and in its ongoing training programme for the entire
workforce. The development in 2013 of the new oxygen cleaning service
for high integrity, safety-critical components further broadened CSC’s
global offer.
With CSC winning three major awards in 2013, various aspects of the
company have been recognised for their excellence.
The CSC team was also invited to speak at the prestigious Offshore Technology
Conference in Houston about its new asset management service.
Again, CSC’s In Situ team has thrived in 2013, establishing its
asset management service as a truly global product. The year saw the
team deployed to a variety of inhospitable environments, including off
the coast of the Congo and Norway, and its reputation continues to grow.

the Far East, CSC out-performed its own expectations in 2013. With CSC’s
continued success in new markets we are looking forward to improving
