LIMA 2015 Chess Dynamics Showcased the Sea Eagle Naval EO Fire Control
System
At
the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace exhibition, LIMA
2015 held in Malaysia last week, British company Chess Dynamics showcased
the Sea Eagle FCEO naval electro optic fire control system. Sea Eagle
FCEO employs an advanced electro optical sensor suite to provide 24
hour target acquisition, tracking and gun engagement. Variants of the
system are operational with a number of navies around the world, including
the Royal Navy.

The
Sea Eagle FCEO is a high performance, fully stabilised direct drive
servo positioning and tracking Naval platform with a fully integrated
control system. It has been specifically developed for accurate control
of optical sensor payloads in demanding applications such as:
» Weapon Fire Control
» Long Range Surveillance
» Dynamics Motion Stabilisation
» Micro-Radian Absolute Positioning and Pointing
A Chess Dynamics representative told Navy Recognition during LIMA 2015
that the Sea Eagle FCEO was first introduced in 2005 with the UK Royal
Navy on board Type 23 Frigates. Over 75 variants have been produced
and are in active service with the Irish Navy (OPV), Iraqi Navy (Swift
patrol vessel), Royal Navy of Oman (Khareef class OPV), Royal Thai Navy
(Endurance class LPD). The fire control system will also be fitted on
board Royal Navy future Type 26 frigates and Queen Elizabeth class aircraft
carriers.
Chess Dynamics was also showcasing the Sea Eagle FCRO: It combines advanced
FMCW Doppler radar with a fully integrated electro optical sensor suite
to provide target acquisition, tracking and gun engagement in all weathers,
24 hours a day. The system has been designed from the outset to achieve
the critical balance between price and performance by offering a combination
of performance, which is normally only achieved by more expensive systems,
and innovative features, that simplify operation whilst stretching the
operational envelope.
