At IMDEX Asia 2017, the international maritime defence exhibition currently held in Singapore, the Republic of Singapore Navy is showcasing some of its latest pieces of equipment and systems.

The K-STER vehicle (designed and manufactured by ECA from France) is an Expendable Mine Disposable System (EMDS), remotely controlled from the MCM vessel by a fibre optic cable. It is highly manoeuvrable and can be deployed to neutralise various kinds of sea mines that are laid on the sea-bed, partially buried or floating in mid-water.

Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS) A244/S Light Weight Torpedo (LWT) is a lightweight, fire and forget torpedo employed for anti-submarine warfare. The torpedo can be launched from the Formidable-class frigates and S-70B Seahawk naval helicopters. It has a speed in excess of 30 knots and a range of more than 6 Km.

The Combatant Craft Medium (CCM) is the latest addition to the fleet of rigid hull inflatable boat operated by the naval diving unit. Designed and manufactured by Zodiac Milpro from France, the CCM is approximately 11 metres long and powered by two 400HP engines. It was designed to prosecute maritime security operations carrying 15 troops at speeds in excess of 40 knots. The CCM is based on the Zodiac Hurricane family which has successfully demonstrated its air droppable capabilities.

The Protector is an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) which can be remotely controlled to conduct a wide spectrum of critical missions, while eliminating unnecessary risk to personnel and capital assets. Design and produced by Israeli company Rafael, Protector is used for force protection in the naval base to show deterrence, conduct surveillance, interception and shadowing on targets of interest. It can be deployed from naval bases as well as from the RSN Formidable-class frigates.

The ScanEagle unmanned air vehicle (UAV) was acquired from Insitu by the RSN to build-up its shipborne tactical UAV capability and enhance its maritime surveillance capability. This system is integrated aboard the RSN Missile Corvettes. The ScanEagle UAV is designed to provide persistent intelligence and surveillance, and enables the MCV to see further and better.
