Russia aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov 1 The only Russian aircraft carrier (designated heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser) Admiral Kuznetsov left the 35th ship-maintenance dock in Murmansk and anchored in Severomorsk harbor, TASS correspondent reported on Friday. It appears that Russia's flagship set off Saturday for the Mediterranean Sea for combat duty at the coast of the Syrian Arab Republic. In late September Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the aircraft carrier will join the Mediterranean group of Russian warships.

The U.S. Navy commissioned the amphibious transport dock ship John P. Murtha (LPD 26) on October 8, 2016 during a ceremony at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Designated LPD 26, John P. Murtha is the tenth amphibious transport dock ship in the San Antonio class. These versatile ships incorporate both a flight deck to accommodate CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters and MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, as well as a well deck that can launch and recover landing craft and amphibious vehicles.

Lockheed Martin to Upgrade U.S. Navy's SEWIP Shipboard Electronic Warfare Systems
 
Cobham recently received a Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) award for the production of Antenna Array Panel Assemblies (AAPAs) from Lockheed Martin Corporation, Liverpool, N.Y. The AAPAs are used in the Block II configuration of the Navy’s Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP). Work under this contract will be performed by Cobham Integrated Electronic Solutions, a business unit of the Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions sector, in Lansdale, Pa.
Lockheed Martin continues to make technological advances in its electronic warfare portfolio that will keep the warfighter a step ahead. The U.S. Navy awarded the company an initial $148.9M contract for full rate production of Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) Block 2 systems with four additional option years to upgrade the fleet's electronic warfare capabilities so warfighters can respond to evolving threats.

Fincantieri Delivered "Alpino", the Fifth FREMM for the Italian Navy
 
The frigate “Alpino” was delivered today at the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard. It is the fifth vessel of the FREMM program - Multi Mission European Frigates - commissioned to Fincantieri within the international Italian-French program, coordinated by OCCAR (the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation). Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (51% Fincantieri and 49% Finmeccanica) is the prime contractor for Italy in the FREMM program, which envisions the construction of 10 units, all already ordered.
