MQ-8C Fire Scout Completes Successful First Flight from a Littoral Combat Ship Northrop Grumman Corporation’s autonomous helicopter, MQ-8C Fire Scout, took to the air for the first time from a U.S. Navy independence-class Littoral Combat ship, USS Montgomery (LCS-8). The flight took place off the coast of California during the second phase of Dynamic Interface testing, once again demonstrating Fire Scout’s stability and safety while operating around the ship.

The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) completed a live-fire exercise by destroying a drone utilizing the ship self-defense Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) system, April 6. The live-fire exercise was part of an Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Integration (PMINT) Training Exercise in preparation for America's upcoming maiden deployment with the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG).

DCI completes training of first crews for Indian Navy Scorpene-class Submarines

Défense Conseil International (DCI), the reference operator of the French Ministry of Defence for the transfer of French military know-how to international partners, has completed training of the first of two crews of Indian submariners for future Scorpène-type submarines. The training is part of the P-75 programme, launched between India and France in October 2005, which covers the construction of six Scorpène submarines by the Indian shipyard Mazagon Dock Limited.

Orbital ATK has received a $21 million contract for first article test and production of the MK419 Mod 1 Multi-Function Fuze (MFF). The MFF increases the overall mission capability of 5-inch gun ammunition used on U.S. Navy ships by combining five modes of operation into a single fuze, making it the most effective munitions fuze available today.

The launching ceremony of the bow section of the LSS logistic support unit “Vulcano”, took place today at the shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) in the presence of the Italian Minister of Defence, Roberta Pinotti. The unit was ordered to Fincantieri within the renewal plan of the Italian Navy’s fleet. Godmother of the ceremony was Mrs. Maria Teresa Piras, widow of the vessel tenant Emilio Attramini, young Italian Navy Officer, who died in 1977 in the air disaster of the Monte Serra.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that the newest Virginia-class submarine (VCS), Washington (SSN 787), successfully completed its initial sea trials on Sunday. Sea trials test the submarine’s capabilities at sea. Washington was built as part of a teaming agreement between HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division and General Dynamics Electric Boat.

"A major part of the equipment has already been mounted on the ship. Work to furnish the ship with systems and equipment is currently under way. We are expecting to receive steering engines and diesel generators by summer, which would be desirable if we want to float out the vessel by the yearend," the newspaper quoted senior constructor Sergei Panfilov as saying.

Kongsberg Defence Systems (KONGSBERG) has entered into a contract with the Australian Department of Defence worth 150 MNOK for integration of a new capability in the Joint Strike Missile (JSM). This contract is a result of the agreement reached between the Norwegian and Australian Governments initialized during the visit by Norwegian State Secretary of Defence, Mr. Øystein Bø to Australia in 2015.

The United States fired Tomahawk missiles into Syria April 6 in retaliation for the regime of Bashar Assad using nerve agents to attack his own people. President Donald J. Trump ordered the attack on Al-Shayrat Air Base, the base from which the chemical attack on Syria's Idlib province was launched. The missiles were launched from U.S. Navy ships in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

BAE Systems has received a $245 million contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide the gun system, known as the Maritime Indirect Fires System (MIFS), for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship. This award follows the MOD’s announcement of BAE Systems as the preferred bidder last year after a competitive process.
MBDA has successfully conducted air carriage and jettison trials of its cutting-edge Sea Venom/ANL anti-ship missile on board the Lynx Mk 8 naval helicopter. The trials have validated that the missile can be integrated onto the Lynx and Super Lynx helicopters, which remain in frontline service with many customers worldwide.
