The Navy’s newest fast-attack submarine, USS South Dakota (SSN 790) will be commissioned at naval submarine base New London in Connecticut, on February 2, 2019. It is the seventeenth Virginia-class submarine to join the US fleet.

Spiegel Online, citing official documents, reported on January 2, 2019, that the German Federal Security Council has approved the export of a Meko 200 frigate to the Egyptian Navy. The frigate, produced by ThyssenKrupp, likely costs around 500 million euros, sources told the publication. Spiegel noted that Egypt may buy another frigate from the manufacturer in addition to the one it is approved for.

Huntington Ingalls (Shipbuilding) Industries has been awarded a $26 Billion contract to build the third (CVN 80) and fourth (CVN 81) Ford-class aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy. With this block buying contract, the Navy is expected to spare $4 Billion.

The Type 054AP frigates will be an export version of a Chinese advanced guided missile frigate, the Type 054A. These vessels are due to be delivered to Pakistan as part of a major arms deal between Pakistan and China State Shipbuilding Corp, a State-owned defense contractor.
