General Dynamics-built Rescue 21 System Conducts 60,000 SAR Operations with USCG
 
The U.S. Coast Guard has conducted approximately 60,000 search and rescue operations since 2006 with support from the General Dynamics C4 Systems-built Rescue 21 system. The nationwide command, control and communications system connects Coast Guard personnel with distressed mariners up to 20 nautical miles or more out to sea.

Russian Navy nuclear powered missile cruiser Petr Velikiy reaches Mediterranean Sea
 
After entering the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar, the Russian nuclear-powered missile-carrying cruiser Pyotr Velikiy, or Peter the Great, has cast anchor in the Alboran Sea. The crew used its 11-day, 3.2-thousand-mile voyage from the ship’s home base of Severomorsk on the Barents Sea to practice air and anti-submarine defense operations. The cruiser’s mission is part of Russia’s plans to resume its naval presence in strategic areas.

Lockheed Martin, US Navy and MDA Demonstrate Readiness of the Ashore Missile Defense System
 
Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Navy and the Missile Defense Agency celebrated the official “light off” of the Aegis Ashore system for Romania on Oct. 24., representing the system’s operational readiness. This system, along with its re-locatable deckhouse, will be deployed to Romania in 2015 as part of the administration’s European Phased Adaptive Approach for ballistic missile defense (BMD). The team will be conducting full acceptance testing before shipments to Romania begin next year.

Northrop Grumman to Supply AN/SPQ-9B X-band pulse Doppler Radars for Three U.S.Navy Vessels
 
Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy to supply three AN/SPQ-9B radar systems for amphibious and Arleigh Burke class ships. Under the $20.4 million contract award, Northrop Grumman will supply three AN/SPQ-9B radar systems for delivery in the second quarter of 2015. This contract adds to the 53 radar systems the company has already delivered, or is under contract to deliver.

The multi-day mission exercised UUV autonomy methods and demonstrated the capability of a high capacity energy configuration.
The US Navy's 11th Virginia-class attack submarine was christened in Groton, Conn., Nov. 2, during a late-morning ceremony at the General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) shipyard. The ceremony marked the official naming of Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) North Dakota (SSN 784). The ship is currently under construction by both GDEB and Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, through a teaming arrangement.

The sector's Industry groups, including GICAN, representing the naval and maritime industry, are the preferred Government partners for developing and deploying this new sector that is now officially part of the twelve major French industrial sectors.

Vietnam has selected MBDA's Exocet MM40 Block III anti-ship missiles and VL Mica SAM systems for its two Damen built Sigma 9814 Corvettes according to French business weekly La Tribune. The two systems represent some of the most modern maritime superiority missile solutions.
 

Iran IRGC Planning to Form Shadow Navy Force
 
“The Naval Basij (force) should be quickly organized through the cooperation of the IRGC Navy and the Basij Organization,” Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Navy Brigadier General Ali Akbar Kharatiyan said on Saturday, addressing a conference in the Southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas. General Kharatiyan underlined the high capabilities of Iran's Basij force, and said that Basij should be empowered to boost the capabilities of the IRGC Navy.

Kazakh Navy Commander Rear Admiral Zhandarbek Zhanzakov hailed Iran’s military and defense programs, and announced that his country is planning to send navy personnel and experts to Iran for further training. “We hope that Kazakhstan's experts come to Iran to undergo training and this is feasible,” Admiral Zhanzakov said, addressing Iranian commanders of naval expertise in the Northern Iranian city of Rasht.

Boeing Delivers 12th Production P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft to US Navy
 
Boeing delivered the 12th production P-8A Poseidon on schedule on Oct. 25, enhancing the long-range maritime patrol capabilities of the U.S. Navy. The P-8A departed Boeing Field in Seattle for Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., where it joined the other Poseidon aircraft being used to train Navy crews. The aircraft is the sixth from the second low-rate initial production contract lot awarded in November 2011.

Northrop Grumman, U.S. Navy Complete First Flight of MQ-8C Fire Scout VTOL UAV
 
Northrop Grumman Corporation and the U.S. Navy successfully completed the first flight of the next-generation MQ-8C Fire Scout unmanned helicopter at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, Calif. At 12:05 p.m. the MQ-8C Fire Scout took off and flew for seven minutes in restricted airspace to validate the autonomous control systems. A second flight that took off at 2:39 p.m. for nine minutes was also flown in a pattern around the airfield, reaching 500 feet altitude.
