New US Navy Submarines &Surface Ships to have Advanced DMR Radios built by General Dynamics
 
The U.S. Navy has ordered 56 AN/USC-61(C) Digital Modular Radios (DMRs) and related equipment from General Dynamics. The newly built DMR radios will be capable of using the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) waveform, the digital dial tone needed to make voice calls to the U.S. Department of Defense's next generation, narrowband MUOS satellite communications system. The four-channel radios form the foundation of the Navy's network communications aboard submarines, surface ships and on-shore locations. This order, valued at over $29 million, exercises option five on a contract awarded to General Dynamics in 2010.

On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the new Suez Canal on August 6th, the FREMM frigate Tahya Misr, delivered by DCNS to Egypt on June 23rd, has joined a large part of the naval fleet around Marechal Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Benefiting from the latest developed technologies, the multimission frigate, now operational, contributes to the modernization of the Egyptian forces’ defence mechanisms.

British company BAE Systems, acting as prime contractor, awarded today a number of long-lead equipment manufacturing contracts to seven suppliers for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship worth more than £170million. In addition to Raytheon Anschuetz (read our dedicated story here) contracts were awarded to Babcock, David Brown Gear Systems, GE, Raytheon Anschuetz, Rolls-Royce Power Engineering, Rohde & Schwarz and WR Davis.

Images have emmerged on the Chinese internet showing what seems to be a mobile coastal variant of the YJ-18 (YingJi-18 or Eagle/Hawk-18) vertically-launched, long-range, supersonic, anti-ship missile. Two types of vehicles are shown in the recent pictures: a 12x12 chassis acting as the transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicle and a smaller 8x8 chassis that could be the transporter/reloader vehicle.

Egyptian Navy FREMM Frigate Tahya Misr Reached its Homeport in Alexandria
 
On 31 July 2015 the FREMM Tahya Misr of the Egyptian navy reached her homeport in Alexandria. The Frigate left the French naval base of Brest on July 22nd. On 23 June of this year, the FREMM Tahya Misr was transferred from DCNS to the Egyptian navy during a ceremony attended by the Egyptian and French Defence Ministers.

Royal Bahamas Defence Force Damen RoRo 5612 launched in Vietnam
 
A Damen RoRo 5612 was launched at Halong Shipyard in Vietnam. The RoRo is one of nine Damen vessels ordered by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force as part of its Sandy Bottom Project. The vessel’s multi-purpose capabilities will be put to use by the Defence Force in a range of situations including law enforcement, aids to navigation (ATON), replenishment at sea (RAS), the re-supply to Defence Force bases and the provision of disaster relief throughout the island nation and the wider Caribbean community.
