HII Awarded Contract for Detail Design & Construction of Aircraft Carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79)
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries received a $3.35 billion contract award for the detail design and construction of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), the second ship in the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers. The work will be performed at the company's Newport News Shipbuilding division. The company also received a $941 million modification to an existing construction preparation contract to continue material procurement and manufacturing in support of the ship.

Finnish Navy received its first three U-700 "Jehu" class boats from Marine Alutech
 
On June 3rd, the Finnish Navy received its first three U-700 class (Watercat M18 AMC) landing ships in Raseborg. The new ship class is called "Jehu". The Finnish Navy has ordered a total of 12 boats from Marine Alutech Oy Ab. "Jehu" is a fast multipurpose boat that has both a large-scale transport capacity and effective countermeasure systems. The ships can be used for troop transports, medical and evacuation tasks, landing, sea surveillance and escorting tasks, as well as for battle and battle support missions. The "Jehu" boats can be used both in the archipelago and coastal areas and on the high seas.

The French Navy Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) ship Dupuy de Lôme (A 759) crossed the Bosphorus to enter the Black Sea on June 3rd. Last year, the French "spy" ship was deployed four times to the Black Sea, an unprecedented situation. The vessel is undoubtedly deployed to monitor the events currently taking place in East Ukraine.

Raytheon awarded $149 million for SM-6 Missiles as US Navy Wants to Rapidly Increase Quantities
 
The U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon Company an additional $149 millionfor 74 Standard Missile-6 all up rounds, spares, containers and services. When combined with the nearly $110 million long-lead material purchase made in March 2015, the total full-rate production contract for Fiscal Year 2015-2016 is $259 million. Future contract modifications include options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to nearly $563 million.

Japan, France and the United States Conducted A Joint Amphibious Exercise For the 1st Time
 
The French Navy (Marine Nationale) announced it has conducted joint amphibious maneuvers with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the US Navy last month in the East China Sea. Named Kitsune 2015, the exercise (which was a first for the three navies) involved the Mistral class LHD Dixmude and Lafayette class Frigate Aconit of the French Navy, the Osumi (head of the class) tank landing ship of the JMSDF and Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Preble of the US Navy.

Sea trials are aggressive operational tests that demonstrate the submarine’s capabilities at sea. John Warner, the first Virginia-class submarine to be named for a person, is being built as part of a teaming arrangement between HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division and General Dynamics Electric Boat.

This modification covers efforts to support the upgrade of Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Atago Class Ships (DDGs 177 and 178) from Baseline 7 Phase 1R to Advanced Capability Build 12 with Technology Insertion 12 technology and capability.
