The MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) built for the U.S. Navy by Northrop Grumman Corporation has successfully completed Operational Assessment (OA). Pending final data analysis, the completion of this milestone signals the maturity of the system and paves the way for a positive Milestone C decision. Milestone C will transition Triton into low rate initial production.

Fincantieri Cuts 1st Steel of New LSS – Logistic Support Ship for Italian Navy
 
The steel cutting ceremony of the LSS logistic support unit’s bow section was held today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia. Construction works, therefore, officially started on the first unit, as provided in the renewal plan of the Italian Navy’s fleet, which has been commissioned to Fincantieri.

Zelenodolsk Shipyard to Lay Down 3rd Project 22160 Patrol Ship for Russian Navy
 
The Zelenodolsk Shipyard in the Volga area will lay down the third Project 22160 patrol ship Pavel Derzhavin on February 18, shipyard spokesman Andrei Spiridonov told TASS on Monday. "The shipyard will hold a solemn ceremony of laying down the Project 22160 patrol ship Pavel Derzhavin developed by the Severnoye Design Bureau in St. Petersburg [in northwest Russia]," the spokesman said.

Irish Coast Guard Perform More than 1,000 SAR Missions in 2015 with Sikorsky S-92 Helicopter Fleet
 
The Irish Coast Guard in partnership with CHC Helicopter completed more than 1,000 search and rescue (SAR) missions in 2015 with a fleet of five Sikorsky S-92® helicopters. The milestone, an increase of 12 percent on the previous year, tops the 2014 record of 914 missions, and is the first time since 1991 that the Irish Coast Guard achieved 1,000 missions in a single year. Sikorsky is a Lockheed Martin company.

Joint Maritime Security Exercise for ITS Carabiniere & French Navy Floreal Frigates
 
Deployed since October 2015 in the Indian Ocean as EU counter-piracy Operation Atalanta flagship, in recent days ITS Carabiniere conducted a joint exercise with French frigate FS Floreal. The exercise, held in international waters, was aimed at enhancing units’ interoperability and operational effectiveness, in order to ensure safer shipping lanes across these equatorial seas which are constantly threatened by piracy.

Thales Modernises German Navy’s Tactical Trainer
 
The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and in Source Support (BAAINBw) has awarded Thales with the modernisation of the German Navy's tactical and procedural trainer (TVTM 1) at the naval training centre (MOS) in Bremerhaven. After more than ten years of almost unmodified operation, the IT infrastructure has become outdated and is no longer sustainable. As a result, the regeneration of the simulators is scheduled to be completed by August 2018.

At least, one Kh-35U missile was shown, being mounted on the bomber`s port-side underwing hardpoint.

F-35 Lightning II worldwide fleet exceeds 50,000 flying hours
 
F-35 Lightning II aircraft operating at 12 different locations worldwide surpassed the 50,000 flight hour mark this month. The first flight hour was achieved by an F-35B aircraft, BF-01, June 1, 2008. The 25,000 flight hour milestone occurred in December 2014, six years and six months later. As a sign of program growth and maturity, the second 25,000 flight hours were reached only one year and two months later.

The funding will enable BAE Systems to develop the design of the submarine, including the layout of equipment and systems, and to develop manufacturing processes, including the production of early prototypes. The announcement comes ahead of the next phase of the programme later this year.
