Newport News Shipbuilding Christens 14th Virginia-Class Submarine, Washington (SSN 787)
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division today celebrated the christening of the future USS Washington (SSN 787), the 14th Virginia-class submarine. Ship sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, smashed a bottle of sparkling wine, dipped in the waters of Washington’s Puget Sound, across the bow to mark the christening of the submarine named for the Evergreen State.

According to People's Army Newspaper, the official media of the Vietnamese armed forces, Vice Admiral Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, on March 4th chaired a session of the Scientific Check and Admission Board of the Ministry of National Defence to approve the research project on the employment of the submarine force in national protection wars. Rear Admiral Ngo Quang Tien, Director of the Vietnam Naval Academy, is in charge of the project.

Ingalls-built John P. Murtha (LPD 26) Successfully Completes Builder’s Sea Trials
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today the successful sea trials of the company’s 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26). The ship, built at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, spent four days in the Gulf of Mexico last week with Ingalls’ test and trials team operating the ship and performing more than 200 test events.

Japan's MHI Delivers 7th Soryu-Class Submarine "Jinryu" to JMSDF
 
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) delivered the "Jinryu" submarine to the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD) today in a ceremony held at the MHI Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works' No.3 pier in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. The Jinryu is the seventh Soryu-class submarine supplied to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), and the fourth built by MHI. MHI also built the first Soryu-class submarine, and has produced a total of 26 submarines at the MHI Kobe Shipyard over the last 70 years.

Raytheon's Standard Missile-6, successfully engaged five targets and shattered its previous maximum engagement range record, set in June of 2014. This test series, supported by the Cooperative Engagement Capability, validated the tactical warfighting capability of SM-6, by demonstrating both maximum down range and a maximum cross range intercepts in over-the-horizon, engage-on-remote missions.

Mirak, a training ship built by Littoral shipyard in Marseillan, has just been delivered to DCI during a ceremonial launch held in Saint Mandrier. The John C. Stennis Strike Group (JCSSG) is conducting routine operations in the South China Sea. The ships transited the Luzon Strait March 1 and have maintained a location in the eastern half of these international waters for four days. USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93), USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) all conducted a replenishment at sea March 4, receiving advanced biofuel, aviation fuel and supplies from USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7). Third of TKMS built F125 class Frigate “Sachsen-Anhalt” Christened for the German Navy
 
The third of a total of four 125 class frigates for the German Navy was christened “Sachsen-Anhalt” today at the Hamburg site of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. Following the christening of the first two frigates “Baden-Württemberg” in December 2013 and “Nordrhein-Westfalen” in April 2015 this is a further important milestone in the shipbuilding program for this frigate class. Dr. Gabriele Haseloff, wife of the premier of the state of Saxony-Anhalt after which the frigate has been named, performed the christening ceremony in the presence of high-level representatives from government, the German Navy and the companies involved.

The battalion has undergone special training with Russia’s Black Sea Fleet to operate Bastion coastal defense missile systems, the spokesman added.

GE’s Marine Solutions will provide the LM2500+G4 gas turbine that will power the Italian Navy’s new Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose offshore patrol ships. The ships’ hybrid electric propulsion system also will use GE’s shock-proof MV3000 drives and a GE-designed electrical network of motors as part of the propulsion system.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has today announced £642 million of investment for the Successor submarine programme. The funding will help to progress work on the four new submarines that will begin replacing the Vanguard class, from the 2030s. The funding will go towards new parts and facilities, as well as further design work. The investment will include £225 million of investment for new facilities, at BAE Systems at Barrow-in-Furness, where the submarines will be assembled. That investment will ensure the submarines are built with maximum efficiency.
