Austal Lays Keel of First Pacific Patrol Boat PPB-R For Royal Australian Navy
Austal welcomes the announcement by the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and Timor-Leste Prime Minister, Mari Alkatiri, that Timor Leste would take two of Austal’s Guardian Class Pacific Patrol Boats (PPBs). When contracted this will increase the total production quantity to 21 from the 19 already committed. The announcement was made at the Asia Pacific conference that was attended by both Prime Ministers.

Rockwell Collins recently completed the implementation of ADS-B Out software on C-2A, E2-C and P-3C aircraft for the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). The certified software brings these aircraft into compliance with the upcoming ADS-B Out mandates required by the end of 2019.

The 10th Soryu-class SSK, SS-510 Shoryu, was launched at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries shipyard in Kobe on November 6th. The Soryu-class diesel-electric submarines are being built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

It is believed to receive a reinforced armament suite that will allow engagement of enemy`s small craft and providing of fire support to the troops. These boats have a speed of over 80 km/h; they also can hunt in all weather conditions. According to the experts, the new heavily armed combatants will be highly demanded in the Baltic and the water areas of the Azov Sea.

South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced that the fourth LST-II class Landing Ship Tank "No Jeok Bong" was christened and launched on November 2nd. The amphibious vessel is intended for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy). The LST is the last of four vessels built as part of South Korea's next generation landing ship project. The first ship, the "Cheon Wang Bong", was delivered to the ROK Navy in November 2014 and the second one "Cheon Ja Bong" was delivered in August 2017.

This was announced during an official founding ceremony in Kongsberg, Norway, in the presence of high-ranking German and Norwegian Government officials as well as company representatives of all three partners.

Lockheed Martin received a $158.5 million contract for the second phase of the German Navy P-3C Mission System Refresh program. The program will upgrade the mission system processing suites on the fleet of eight P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft to support operations through 2035. The Mission System Refresh is part of an overall fleet upgrade that includes structural mid-life upgrades as well as an upgrade to the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) cockpit capability.

Researchers from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) successfully completed testing their Nomad flight vehicle off of USS Coronado (LCS 4) in August. This test demonstrated the Nomad’s upgraded launch and control capabilities as well as a new recovery capability by launching multiple vehicles in quick succession, conducting formation flying operations, and recovering all vehicles sequentially onboard the USS Coronado.
