HII Awarded $564 Million Contract for Submarine Engineering and Industrial Work
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding division was awarded a $106 million contract to provide engineering and industrial support on U.S. Navy submarines, special mission submersibles, submarine support facilities and related programs. If all options are exercised, the total value of the contract will be $564 million.

The Lockheed Martin-led industry team launched the nation's ninth littoral combat ship (LCS), Little Rock, into the Menominee River at the Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) shipyard on July 18. The ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Janee Bonner, christened Little Rock (LCS 9) with the traditional smashing of a champagne bottle across the ship's bow just prior to the launch.

Russia to develop a new self-propelled coastal defense gun based on 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV howitzer
 
Our colleagues from Army Recognition reported that Russia is developing a new self-propelled coastal defense gun, based on the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV system. The announcement came from Burevestnik Design Bureau chief, Georgy Zakamennykh. The Russian naval command plans to outline the technical characteristics of the new system within the next two months.
Our colleagues from Army Recognition reported that Russia is developing a new self-propelled coastal defense gun, based on the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV system. According to several Indian newspapers, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched its project to build a 65,000-tonne sea-borne aircraft carrier, nammed "indigenous aircraft carrier number 2", or IAC-2. A Letter of Request (LoR) was sent to at least four foreign companies: BAE Systems, DCNS, Lockheed Maritn and Rosoboronexport.

Japan’s top military commander is on an official visit to Washington.

According to Russian news agency TASS, Russian and Chinese Navy signed in Vladivostok on Friday a protocol on the Join Sea-2015 drills. These maneuvers will for the first time involve a joint amphibious assault drill in Russia’s Primorsky territory with the participation of carrier-based aircraft, said Russian Pacific Fleet spokesman Roman Martov.

Laying down Ceremony for the 8th FREMM (General Purpose) Frigate for the Italian Navy
 
The 8th Italian FREMM ship was laid down on the 12th July 2015 at the Riva Trigoso shipyard. The ceremony marks an important milestone in the OCCAR FREMM Programme after the first steel cutting of this frigate on the 25th February 2015. This new FREMM ship will be in the General Purpose configuration and will be delivered to the Italian Navy at the beginning of 2019.

Indian Navy Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya Finally Fitted with Defensive Weapon Systems
 
The Indian Navy aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya was upgraded with Barak-1 air defense systems and Russian made AK-630 close-in weapon systems (CIWS). "INS Vikramaditya will sail out of the harbour in Karwar after its first short refit and join the Navy in a week" said Vice-Admiral P. Murugesan, Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff. Vikramaditya, acquired from Russia for $2.3 billion, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 2013 without air-defence systems.

First 7 "Green" Merlin Mk3 Helicopters Updated to IHC3 Standard Ahead of Transfer to Royal Navy
 
The United Kingdom achieved the modification of the first seven AgustaWestland HC3/3A "Merlin" to the IHC3 standard. These Royal Air Force helicopters are being transferred to the Royal Navy. They will gradually replace the current Westland Sea King HC.4 "Commando" by spring 2016 in the Royal Navy.

Royal Navy AW159 Wildcat Maritime Helicopter Test Fired Sting Ray Torpedo for the 1st Time
 
Northrop Grumman along with the U.S. Navy have successfully conducted the critical design review (CDR) for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Aerial Refueling (AR) system. "The AR team continues to put outstanding effort into bringing this much needed capability to the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye," said Capt. John Lemmon, program manager, E-2/C-2 Airborne Tactical Data System Program Office (PMA-231). "Aerial Refueling will enable the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye to provide longer on-station times at greater ranges."
The Royal Navy’s newest helicopter has fired a torpedo for the first time, dropping a Sting Ray into the waters of Falmouth Bay. An AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat of 825 Naval Air Squadron decamped from Yeovilton to Culdrose for two days on the ranges off the Lizard Peninsula to ‘play with’ the Fleet Air Arm’s main sub-hunting weapon.

The UK Defence Secretary confirmed the news as he visited the home of the UK’s submarine manufacturing industry in Cumbria today. Artful, which will provide the Royal Navy with its most technologically advanced submarine, is currently preparing to leave the construction yard in Barrow-in-Furness for sea trials, before joining the Royal Navy fleet around the end of this year. The seven Astute Class submarines support the jobs of 3,700 workers and 400 supply companies across the UK supply chain.

Russian Navy Naval Aviation Crews from all over Russia gathered at the Northern Fleet base in Severomorsk for a major anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise. For the first time ASW aircraft have arrived at the airfields of the Northern Fleet. Tu-142 (Pacific Fleet) and Be-12 (Black Sea Fleet) have arrived jointly with maintenance specialists.

On July 5th, the French Navy Naval Aviation Practical Experimentation Center (centre d’expérimentations pratiques de l’aéronautique navale - CEPA) led a certification campaign of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Boeing V-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft on the Mistral class LHD Dixmude. The tests took place off the coast of Djibouti, an East Africa country where both France and the USA have permanent bases.

Successful Sea Trials Royal Australian Navy's NUSHIP Adelaide LHD
 
NUSHIP Adelaide will dock at BAE Systems Williamstown shipyard tomorrow following successful initial sea trials and first docking at the RAN base at Garden Island in Sydney. The sea trials were conducted from 17 to 26 June on the voyage to Sydney and then during the voyage back following the successful docking. NUSHIP Adelaide, one of two Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships being built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), left BAE Systems Williamstown on 17 June to begin sea trials, the company announced yesterday, June 23, 2015. After some initial trials in Port Phillip Bay, NUSHIP Adelaide will spend ten days on the water travelling to Sydney.

Chloe Mallet, an ocean engineer, and Andrea Raff, a mechanical engineer, crewed and operated USG's Proteus, a submersible able to operate as a manned swimmer delivery vehicle (SDV) and as an unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV).
