The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) commissioned its 26th Type 054A Frigate (Jiangkai II-class) "Rizhao" (hull number 598). The Commissioning ceremony took place on January 12, 2018 at Lüshunkou naval base (Liaoning province). The frigate joins the PLAN North Sea Fleet. The previous Type 054A Frigate, 25th in the class, was commissioned in July last year.
The Russian Navy launched a large-scale campaign to reinforce coastal missile brigades. Due to the creation of new missile squadrons and rearming with Bastion and Bal launchers the brigades will be able both of defending the coast and destroying ground objects. The units are armed with the latest reconnaissance drones for completely automatic target search. The DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) has just awarded a contract for technology development in the field of rotary-wing drones to the Naval Group and Airbus Helicopters consortium. The contract covers de-risking studies ahead of construction of a future tactical helicopter drone demonstrator aboard warships. The demonstration project will lead to trials of the drone launch system, mission system and airborne vehicle, conducted from a French Navy vessel.
iXblue, a specialist in maritime navigation and positioning, has been selected by Naval Group to equip five new 4000-ton frigates intended for the French Navy. Responsible for the development of these vessels, Naval Group has signed a contract with iXblue for the acquisition of Marins inertial navigation systems and Netans data distribution & processing units to equip these five new generation frigates.

Patria has signed an agreement with the Finnish Defence Forces on the mid-life upgrade and overhaul of the Finnish Defence Forces’ Hamina Class fast attack craft. The procurement is part of the Naval Capability Development Programme, based on which the overhaul of Hamina Class vessels will ensure continued naval defence capabilities in the period between the decommissioning of Rauma Class fast attack craft and the commissioning of Squadron 2020 corvettes during the 2020s. The total value of the delivery contract, without options, is around 170 million euros (excluding VAT). The estimated employment effect of the programme in Finland will be around 300 person-years.
